Marion Parks & Recreation - Disc Golf

Fund Purpose:

The purpose of this fund is to support Marion Parks & Recreation Disc Golf.

Fund Story:
A disc golf course had been in demand for quite a few years, so in 2009, the Marion Parks Department started this fund to support recreation disc golf. “We formed a committee and began planning,” said Belinda Hussong, Director of the Marion Parks Department. “The local high school students designed the course and then a professional evaluated and tweaked it.”

“We first established the cost—baskets, tee off, signage, etc.—and then the committee went out and began fundraising,” said Hussong. Most of the course equipment was made locally, including the baskets which were made in Peru, Indiana.

The course is used all year long and frequently holds tournaments. “It is one of the best courses
in the area,” said Hussong. “It is challenging, free of charge, and very popular.”
